Bad case of COVID-19 forces Ray Borg out of UAE Warriors title fight

Ray Borg is one of the best lightweight class fighters in the world, but an opponent who keeps punching him in the face is life itself.

Borg, a former UFC flyweight contender, was set to compete in a UAE Warriors event on October 29. Unfortunately, that fight will not end because “The Tazmexican Devil” has tested positive for COVID-19. In a statement released via Instagram, Borg shared the latest devastating news.

“It breaks my heart to have to post this, but unfortunately I have tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be able to compete in UAE Warriors 24,” he wrote. “I have learned that although COVID varies from person to person, it is definitely not something to take lightly. I have been very ill for the last week and have not even been able to get out of my own bed. In addition to having all symptoms of COVID, the duration has lasted longer than usual. ”

“I am very upset that I did not have the opportunity to compete for such an amazing organization and I send my sincerest apologies to everyone who supported me at this camp. Thanks to my manager Ali for giving me this opportunity, as well as Fouad Darwish for inviting me to be a part of his program. I will heal and come back strong, thanks for all the support. “

Borg last competed for the UAE Warriors in June, where he earned a unanimous decision victory over Jesse Arnett. This latest UAE Warriors 23 fight was really important not only because he was fighting for the promo’s bantamweight belt, but because Dana White was going to be attending the show as part of his YouTube series Lookin ‘For A Fight.

Borg amassed a 7-5 record with the UFC from 2014 to 2020, but struggled to consistently gain weight. Canceled bouts also plagued her promotion career with six canceled and rescheduled bouts during 2018. Behind the scenes, her newborn son was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and underwent numerous surgeries. After another withdrawal from fighting in 2020 to be with his son, the UFC decided to release Borg. But fans were hoping to see him potentially win a spot in the UFC again.

We hope that Borg makes a full recovery from his bad COVID-19 attack and continues his climb to the top.
