Blachowicz Says Jones “Conversation Is Over,” Doesn’t Think He’ll Return – MMA Root

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachovich says there is no point in discussing John Jones anymore. The Pole doesn’t think Bones will return.

Jones ran the light heavyweight division for years before vacating the belt in 2020 to pursue the heavyweight title. After his departure, one man took the 205-pound throne in a dominant manner.

After he shook the world by defeating Dominic Reyes at UFC 253, he has had significant success in the fight for gold. And in his first defense, he became the first spot on the record of UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Given his 205-pound superiority, many speculated that a clash with the former divisional chief would take place in the future.

Although Blachovich had previously actively fought for the fight against Jones, Blachovich seems to have steadfastly moved away from a potential rivalry with the UFC legend. The 38-year-old had previously interacted with Jones, who sat side-by-side after his brutal knockout win over Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night 167. At the time, it seemed like a championship fight between the pair was imminent.

But those days are long gone, and the current champion believes that any talk of meeting Jones in the Octagon is over. This is despite the fact that Jones’ coach recently suggested that the Bones would prefer a fight with Blakhovich Adesanya. The Polish star doesn’t even believe we’ll ever see the light heavyweight return to action.

“I think this conversation is over, Jon Jones,” Blachovich told MMA Fighting when asked about Jones before returning to UFC 267 on Oct.30. “There is no point in talking about him anymore. I do not know. Maybe he’s not fighting anymore, heavy or light heavyweight, I don’t think so. “

Blakhovich even hinted that he forgot about “Kostya” before he remembered about it during the interview.

“I don’t know what he will do. I forgot about him. You now remind me of John Jones …

“Six months ago, everything would have been different:“ I have to beat him, I’ll find him somewhere and beat him, ”Blakhovich said of his previous desire to meet with Jones. “As I said before, but now I don’t care about him. If he comes back, good. If not, who cares. “

As the 205-pound division continues to expand beyond the Jones era, Blakhovich hopes to make his second successful title defense at UFC 267 next month. On October 30 in Abu Dhabi, the Pole will face veteran Glover Teixeira, who will be his first wrestler in light heavyweight title.

Despite sitting on the wrong side of 40, the Brazilian is perhaps in the shape of his life right now. Since losing to Corey Anderson in 2018, Teixeira has won five straight winnings. A brutal TKO victory over Anthony Smith allowed him to speak for the title, but it was a submission victory over Thiago Santos, who many believed to have reached the top of the division, secured him a spot against the champion.

While it seems unlikely that Jones will return to light heavyweight, a potential clash with Blachovic becomes an increasingly mouth-watering prospect with every impressive performance by the new division king.

Do you agree with Jan Blakhovich? Is John Jones’ time in the UFC over?
