The bantamweight showdown between Norma Dumont and Erin Blanchfield has been removed from the UFC Vegas 23 lineup, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, April 10, 20210) on ABC and ESPN + from inside the APEX facilities of the promotion in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s because Dumont tipped the scales at 139.5 during today’s weigh-in (full results and video here), three and a half pounds above the contracted limit of 135 (when taking into account the one pound allowance that is awarded in fights without qualification).
“We will not fight tomorrow,” Blanchfield wrote on Instagram. “The athletic commission threw the fight, because my opponent lost weight. I told them I would still fight, but they weren’t allowing it. It really sucks. Thank you for all the love and support you brought us. I’ll be back to flyweight soon. “
Elsewhere on the card, Ignacio Bahamondes came in heavy with 156.75 for his lightweight showdown against John Makdessi (153.5). As of this writing, that contest is expected to remain on the UFC Vegas 23 “Prelims” card on ESPN / ESPN +.
MMAmania.com will offer round-by-round, step-by-shot LIVE coverage of the entire UFC Vegas 23 card tomorrow afternoon, starting in the morning. ESPN + preliminary card bouts at 11:30 am ET, followed by ESPN /ESPN + “Preliminaries” at 12 noon, before ABC /ESPN + start at 3 pm ET.
