Cat Zingano Set To Face Pam Sorenson next not Cris Cyborg – MMA Root

Cat Zingano will not fight for the Bellator Featherweight Championship next time.

It seemed like the Bellator featherweight title shot was pretty clear. Cat Zingano called out Chris “Cyborg” Justino and both publicly agreed to fight each other. Now it looks like Zingano won’t be fighting Cyborg for the title next time. Instead, a fight was announced pitting Zingano against Pam Sorenson.

Zingano came to Bellator after a successful performance in the UFC, including a title fight. She now has two wins in the Bellator featherweight division and is in contention for the belt. She suggested that Cyborg and her meet at a Bellator event that was scheduled in Los Angeles in January, but that date was not set. After agreeing to a fight, she began to call Cyborg for allegedly not agreeing to take a drug test.

Cyborg has refuted claims that she will not stick to drug testing and now claims that it was Zingano who squandered the chance to make their agreement official. In a tweet that was later deleted, Cyborg referred to Zingano’s match against Sorenson.

“She gave up a world title fight to compete in the preliminaries?!” Cyborg wrote and deleted (via Yahoo! Sports.)

Sorenson is ranked seventh in the Bellator rankings, while Zingano is second. Sorenson lost to Arlene Blencoe in November. Prior to that, she won two in a row at Bellator and Invicta FC. Most likely, in the event of a victory, Zingano will be the next contender for a title fight; however, the conditions that led to the failure of a potential battle this time may well create problems in the future.

Do you think there will ever be a fight between Cris Cyborg and Cat Zingano?
