Charles Jourdain steps in as late replacement against Ilia Topuria at UFC 270

Ilya Topuria will still fight at UFC 270.

The undefeated 24-year-old is expected to face fellow featherweight prospect Charles Jourdain on a card on January 22 after Jourdain came off the bench less than two weeks later.

MMA Fighting confirmed the news on Thursday after the initial report Ariel Helwani. The fight is not yet signed, but verbally agreed. Topuria’s original opponent Movsar Evloev pulled out earlier this week after testing positive for COVID-19.

Topuria (11-0) is currently ranked 13th in the featherweight division of the global MMA Fighting rankings. In his UFC career, he posted a perfect 3-0 record and entered UFC 270 with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Damon Jackson and Ryan Hall.

He will now take on Jourdain (12-4-1), a 26-year-old Canadian who has split his seven UFC appearances 3-3-1 but enters the fight having won two of his last three fights. Jourdain defeated Andre Ewell by unanimous decision in his last fight in December.

UFC 270 will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The card was led by two championship bouts, with Francis Ngannou and Cyril Gein clashing to unify the heavyweight titles in the main event, and flyweight champion Brandon Moreno defending his trilogy belt against Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event of the evening.
