Ciryl Gane Applauds Francis Ngannou’s Boxing Aspirations – MMA Root

Cyril Gein has no objection to UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou talking about a possible cross-fight with boxer Tyson Fury.

Ngannou and Ghane prepared well for their fight at UFC 270. Although the two heavyweights did not address each other directly in the media, Ngannou’s troubles with Ghane’s trainer Fernand Lopez were widely publicized.

It looks like Ngannou and the UFC are still at a crossroads regarding a new contract. His fight with Gein will be the last in his contract if he loses his heavyweight title at UFC 270.

Ngannou and Fury recently discussed a possible boxing match on social media, but Gein doesn’t believe Ngannou is overlooking it. During a recent interview with the Mirror and others, Gein responded to Ngannou’s recent comments regarding the transition to the boxing ring.

“This is a smart move, this is a new move. Everyone knows that in this game you have more money [boxing] for a long time, so yes, it’s a smart move,” Gein said. “I think Francis is a smart guy, he talks about it and talks about the future, but he is focused on the present. He knows he has a problem with me, so I think he takes me seriously.” (b/t Mirror)

Gein is widely regarded as one of the most versatile strikers in the UFC, with incredible moves for a heavyweight. He could potentially give Ngannou all kinds of problems in their match.

The two giants briefly trained together at an MMA factory in France before Lopez kicked Ngannou out for allegedly being a bad teammate and not paying fees. Footage of Gane and Ngannou sparring was leaked during a pre-fight performance.

If Ngannou is overlooking Gein, it is clear that Gein will be the beneficiary. In what UFC president Dana White called perhaps the biggest heavyweight bout in years, both fighters are looking to cement their status as potentially UFC greats of all time.
