Heavyweight contenders Cyril Gein and Alexander Volkov have agreed to meet in the main event of the upcoming UFC tournament, scheduled for June 26.
Several sources close to the situation confirmed the MMA Fighting news on Saturday following an initial report from ESPN…
Considered one of the best looking players in the heavyweight division, Gein hasn’t lost in his career with five straight UFC victories. Most recently, the French heavyweight contender defeated Jairzinho Rosenstruik by unanimous decision, taking a significant step forward towards the division title.
He could potentially solidify his position as a challenger for new champion Francis Ngannou with another victory in June.
As for Volkov, the Russian has remained one of the strongest in the UFC over the past few years and has currently won a streak of two by knocking out Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris. Volkov’s only defeat in the last four years is a knockout in the last second by Derrick Lewis and a defeat by decision of the judges to Curtis Blades.
Aside from these setbacks, Volkov has taken on a long list of the strongest heavyweights, including former champion Fabricio Werdum, as well as notable up-and-coming player and former NFL player Greg Hardy.
Gain vs. Volkov will headline the June 26 card, and the venue is yet to be determined.
