Boxing champion Claressa Shields will make her MMA debut at a Professional Fighters League event on June 10.
The date for Shields’ debut was announced during an interview with “Good Morning America”. An opponent for the Shields period was not revealed. The PFL card is held at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ
Shields is a double Olympic gold boxer and WBC and WBO lightweight champion. She improved her professional mark to 11-0 with a unanimous victory over Marie Eve Dicaire on March 5, claiming the vacant IBF and WBA titles in the process. The shields against Dicaire were a reward for all women, the first of its kind in boxing since June 8, 2001.
The Shields signed with the PFL last year, with plans to compete in MMA, while continuing her boxing career. During the 2021 campaign, the Shields will make one-off races instead of participating in the organization’s season form. He previously enjoyed a training relationship with Bellator featherweight queen Cristiane Justino, but most recently worked with Holly Holm and Jon Jones on the Jackson-Wink MMA.
The PFL starts the 2021 season on April 23rd. The June 10 lineup will include lightweight and featherweight athletes in addition to the Shields.
