There will be an additional feud in the bantamweight bout between Oron Kahlon and Javid Basharat in the 9th week of Dana White’s Contender series.
After the weigh-in on Monday morning, Kahlon, who is originally from Israel, is heard calling his opponent a “terrorist” during a confrontation. Basarat is based in England with the London Shootfighters but is originally from Afghanistan.
Perhaps some of the tension during the face-off came from Kahlon’s fights on the scales, as he lost three pounds during the fight, which led Basarat to refuse a handshake from his opponent. The two exchanged words before the mockery and Basarat admitted that he heard the insult in a post on his Instagram account.
“This woman wanted a way out by losing three kilos of weight,” Basarat wrote. “I told him I would continue to scream at him, then he called me a terrorist. [He] he wanted a reaction, again he wanted a way out. Unfortunately for him, I’m not going anywhere! “I look forward to seeing him tomorrow.”
Basarat has 10-0 in his professional career and if he signs, he will join Nasrat Haqparast as the second Afghan fighter in the UFC roster. The 40-year-old Kahlon is 12-0 with all his victories coming from a distance.
The Contender series airs Tuesday on ESPN + starting at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
