Curtis Blaydes vs. Chris Daukaus Targeted For March 26 Main Event – MMA Root

UFC heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Chris Daukaus will fight as the new main event of the upcoming UFC Columbus card.

This was first reported MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

Blades is looking to continue to gain momentum after an impressive win over Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 264, having previously lost a second-round knockout to Derrick Lewis last February.

The Blades will face a major test in Daucaus, who is also looking to make a comeback after being knocked out by Lewis. He had a five-fight winning streak before losing to Lewis, which was his first loss in the UFC.

Blades/Daukaus will take the place of the light heavyweight bout between Jan Blachowicz and Aleksander Rakic. It was originally the scheduled main event before Blachowicz was forced to pull out due to injury. This match is expected to be rescheduled for the end of this year.

Blades recently called for his next fight with former interim champion Cyril Gein, but it looks like Gein is looking to take a break after losing to Francis Ngannou at UFC 270. The fight could still happen if Blades can defeat Daucaus.

The UFC heavyweight title is a bit shaky at the moment as Ngannou is expected to miss most of 2022 due to knee surgery. Some believe the promotion will likely book another interim title fight as Ngannou recovers from his injury.

Blades vs Daucaus won’t be the only intriguing fight on the map. The co-main event will be a potential flyweight contender between Askar Askarov and Kai Cara France, with Michelle Waterson returning to the octagon against Amanda Ribas.
