Dana White has been a consistent skeptic on the issue of Nick Diaz’s return to the UFC.
However, the perspective of the UFC president seemed to change in a recent interview with UFC Arabia, where it sounded certain that Stockton, a California native, would enter the Octagon at some point soon.
“I was not very good at it,” White said. “I did not think it would happen, but it seems it will. It looks like Nick Diaz will be fighting this year. “
It seems that Diaz has been flirting with a comeback for years, but so far it has not materialized. The former Strikeforce champion has not played since January 2015, when he lost a five-round decision to Anderson Silva in a match that was later overturned in a no-fight. The 37-year-old Cesar Gracie Fight Team product has not won a race since beating BJ Penn at UFC 137 in October 2011.
That said, White is more optimistic about Diaz’s prospects than he has been for a long time.
“The last time I saw him in Jacksonville, but it looks like it will happen,” White said. “We’ll see. The consuls have
[talked to him] but I do not know where we are, but it looks very promising.
“You never hear me say that. “Do you think Nick Diaz will fight this year?” Absolutely not what I usually say. Look very promising [he’ll fight this year]”
