Derrick Lewis Gets 60 Days After Brutal Knockout
Derrick Lewis will be out of action for two months after his knockout defeat by Tai Tuivasa in the UFC 271 co-main event.
“The Black Beast” received a 60-day medical suspension after an elbow from Tuivasa that made the Houston native face the canvas plant at 1:40 in Round 2 in their heavyweight bout. Tuivasa, meanwhile, received only a mandatory seven-day suspension.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has published a complete list of medical suspensions from the event at mixedmartialarts.com. The specific reasons for each medical suspension were not disclosed by the TDLR. UFC 271 took place at the Toyota Center in Houston last Saturday and saw Israel Adesanya retain his crown in the middleweight division with a five-round verdict against Robert Whittaker in the night’s headliner. Both Adesanya and Whittaker are suspended until February 28.
Two fighters from the card received indefinite terms: Marcelo Rojo and Maxim Grisin.
