Prolonged symptoms of COVID-19 forced Sage Northcutt from a proposed collision with Shinya Aoki in One on TNT 4.
As a result, Eduard Folayang will come in and face Aoki on April 28 at Indoor Singapore Stadium. Promotion officials announced the change on Monday. Folayang originally intended to face Yoshihiro Akiyama on the same card, but Aikyama withdrew due to injury. One on TNT 4 airs live on TNT in the United States at 10 p.m. ET and focuses on a slight title slope between Aung La N Sang and Vitaly Bigdash.
The 37-year-old Folyang has fallen into difficult times slowly, losing four of his last five appearances under the Championship banner. Most recently, he suffered a unanimous decision loss by Antonio Caruso in One “Inside the Matrix” on October 30. Folayang previously defeated Aoki through the third round of TKO to claim the lightweight promotion belt in November 2016, but Aoki regained the title by submitting a first round in March 2019.
Former One, Dream and Shooto champions Aoki, 37, enter the match against Folayang in a three-season win. “Tobikan Judan” last appeared on One “Unbreakable”, where he presented James Nakashima in the first phase on January 22. Aoki is 46-9 with 29 wins during his career.
Northcutt, who tested positive for the virus in January, has not fought since suffering a 29-second knockout defeat in his One Championship debut against Cosmo Alexandre on May 17, 2019. As a result of this fight, Northcutt had to undergo nine hours of surgery to repair multiple fractures to his face. Prior to that defeat, Northcutt fell 6-2 during the UFC season from 2015 to 2018.
