Sometimes things start out in the most amazing ways. Take Casio watch company for example. If you were asked to guess the first product made by Casio, you might think it was the calculator or some other electronic product. You would be wrong. Tadao Kashio started the Casio Company in 1946. Understand that this was in Japan after World War II. The financial situation in Japan was bad at the time to say the least. When Mr. Kashio started his company, he was a manufacturing engineer hoping to get a big break.
His big break showed in a very unique way. Tadao Kashio developed a product called the yubiwa pipe. Let his design wear it on the fingers. It was used to hold a cigarette, allowing smokers to smoke the cigarette into the filter, while still being able to use both hands. In modern-day poor Japan, cigarettes were a hot commodity and the product was a great success. The yubiwa pipe cry is far from the calculators and watches that were to follow, but it has made the company a success.
Since Mr. Kashio was clearly an inventive man, it only took him a short time to decide to explore different products. At the business show in Ginza, Japan in 1949, he discovered electronic calculators. With the proceeds from the sale of yubiwa pipes, Mr. Kashio and his brothers began experimenting with making their own calculators. At the time, most calculators were run using gears. With dedication and hard work, the Casio Company came out with the first calculator to use solenoids. The new type of calculator was sold in 1954. This calculator was the first to have the 10-digit pad and had only one display window apart from the competitors that had three.
As you know, calculators were not the only product made by Casio. Following the release of the Model 14-A calculator, many more products were designed and released to the general public. The same year the release of the 14-A, Casio Computer Co., Inc. was made available. of the company also. This is around the time that watches from Casio first made their mark on the watch industry. Casio is well aware of the immense variety and innovation of their watches almost from the beginning of production. They were one of the first watch companies to manufacture the now famous quartz crystal watches. The quartz watches made by Casio were available in both digital and analog styles. The calculator watch may be the watch most remembered by the company. For those of you who don’t remember, it showed all of the amazing time-lapse capabilities of regular Casio watches, with an added dimension. There was a tiny calculator with a small pad inserted into the watch. During his hey day he was a bane of math teachers everywhere and the savior of every deficient math student.
Assuming that calculator watching was so much fun, Casio continued to raise the bar. This company was the first to design and produce a watch that could provide some interesting details to its owner. One such watch could display many different time zones at the touch of a button. Others were equipped to give weather data such as temperature and barometric pressure. Mountain climbers of the last century loved the version that came with a gauge to indicate the height. While other watch manufacturers were stuck on the old, the same old one, Casio consistently offered exciting new variations on the classic watch.
With the real gadgets of the world in mind, Casio came up with a watch just for them. It is a line of Wave Ceptors watches. They were actually better than this one. These watches are equipped to receive radio signals that enable the watch to keep accurate time. They are able to tell the time in different time zones, the user can set alarm and timer. This line of watches also came with an extremely extensive user manual to provide all the necessary instructions to the owner.
From the yubiwa pipe to the world’s best calculators and watches, the Casio has come a long way from its awful beginning. They continue to challenge themselves and their competitors to higher peaks and offer the best electronics products possible.
