Is Mixed Martial Arts Barbaric?

Well, I don’t need to tell you as someone who said MMA Announcer Mauro Ranallo, “Are there more steps than a thermometer” I am asked all the time, “What in the world are you fighting in the cradle?”

Then the next statement is, “It seems so violent. So barbaric!”

This statement and question line happened so often that I had to sit down and ask myself …. “Is MMA Barbaric?”

I didn’t really bother to have a debate about violence because we would address it ….

Hockey is violent …

Football is violent …

Rugby is violent …

The boxing is violent …

Judo is violent …

By definition there are many VIOLENT sports. Hell, war is VIOLENT.

Now there are different levels of violence but, they are all violent or have a tendency towards violence at some point due to the nature of that sport.

But the question is …. “Is MMA or Cagefighting Barbaric?”

Well if you do a quick search on the internet you will read how former US Presidential Candidate and Senator John McCain calls the sport “barbaric” and like “human cock fighting.”

You’ll even read how one of the sports stars and practitioners, Chael Sonnen, calls the sport of MMA “barbaric.”

====================

I know now that you are saying to yourself, “So, What!?!?” But this is WHY!

====================

By definition, the word barbaric, according to Webster, means:

1

a: of barbarians, belonging to, or characterized by

b: have a cultural level or characteristic that is more complex than a primitive masterpiece but less sophisticated than advanced civilization

2

marked by lack of restraint: wild

b: have a strange, primitive or non – expert quality

Now by definition MMA is NOT barbaric!

MMA is VIOLENT.

MMA is DANGEROUS.

BUT IS IT BARBARIC?

NO!

Is there an ELEMENT or a barbaric hint? YES! (but this is only due to the lack of training of the practitioner if there is such a lack of experience and understanding) …

BUT DEFINING, IT’S NOT BARBY !!!

=====================

But Dr. Ferguson, How

Can you say that?!?!

======================

  • Well, in the same way NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson can tell you that driving at 180 miles per hour is the norm even though it is extremely dangerous and stupid for some people to drive a car he knows fast that an accident at such speeds can be fatal.
  • Well, in the same way I can watch a football game and watch someone be subconsciously beaten and beaten and reach my right hand back into the chip bowl and swim, slap my high boy five with my left hand and their best, “that’s part of the sport. Don’t run across the middle next time on a belt defense. Sit down in the belt!”
  • Well, in the same way I can watch 12 rounds of boxing and hope someone gets brain trauma. (uhhhh, because YOU ARE BECAUSE it is a trauma to the BRAIN !!!!! It’s not your head, YOUR BRAIN WORK !!!

And it’s not BARBARIC for those with a trained eye.

Just as War is not barbaric.

Because the sport of Mixed Martial Arts is COMPLEX COMPLETE.

As is the sport of football. As with war, if you care to study military science as I do and as I do because war is ART (please see Sun Tzu if you don’t believe me).

It is more complex than a primitive and sophisticated masterpiece just as advanced as civilization. You CANNOT win this sport or be successful or practice it unless you are constrained. And as a matter of fact, this sport restricts its practitioners.

And the QUALITY of sophistication is only readily available and in PLAIN light for the trained eye.

If you were watching the game of chess and did not know how to play. You would not know whether the movements of the practitioners were “sophisticated” or not, but because you are familiar with the game of “chess” you would assume a high level of sophistication.

Well, for those who are NOT familiar with MMA, they accept that the sport does not have a high level of sophistication and could not be further from the truth. The science of MMA is as “sweet” as boxing and although the sport is violent in nature, as is boxing, it is VERY WANTED to be barbaric.

And one of two things those who call him a barbarian:

One, unfamiliar with the definition or term barbaric, or

(2) Two, who are not qualified to speak the sport with any understanding or authority.

It’s one thing to have an opinion …… It’s another thing to GET AN INFORMATION OPINION.

To understand Mixed Martial Arts you have to study it. YOU DON’T DO to Understand It. But to understand it you MUST study it. You can’t watch it for split seconds and make up your mind about a sport that gives you a genuine or learned bias to observe. You can’t do that. You cannot speak among a group of people who believe in your dissertation statement without any quality discourse. Such a thing is stupid and ignorant.

Mixed Martial Arts is certainly a sophisticated sport.

I do it. And I’m not an academic slouch.

It is done by Rosi Sexton and holds a Ph.D. in Maths and honestly enough, Rosi is one of my heroes in the sport and it is something that I look forward to and have a lot of respect for.

I believe she is the FIRST person to fight with a Ph.D. and I believe I am the first man, in terms of fighting on TV.

And she is SUPER SUPER smart because her baby is practicing judo 🙂

It is done by UFC Jeff Monson and holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology.

It was made by Dustin Denes MMA Veteran Fighter and also holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology.

Former UFC Champion Rich Richlin holds a Master’s Degree in Education.

You see, in order for your sport to be Barbaric, Barbarians have to practice it !!!

That is why we do NOT use the term “cage fighting” as Mixed Martial Arts practitioners and enthusiasts. We use the term “Mixed Martial Artist.” As a student of the “Fine Arts” from which “Martial Arts” comes, you can’t be BARBARIC while trying to master.

Perhaps as violent as the Art of War …… ART CAN BE OBTAINED!!

Trust me …. “I’m a DOCTOR!”
