The loaded Bellator 258 master card has suffered.
Bellator officials confirmed to MMA Fighting on Friday that James Gallagher was forced to abandon his planned fight with Patchy Mix at the May 7 event for undisclosed reasons. The promotion is actively looking for an opponent to face Meeks on a map at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. MMA Junkie first reported Gallagher’s scratch.
Meeks hinted at the scratch in his Facebook post on Friday afternoon.
“As expected, the boy ran away as hell,” Meeks wrote.
Meeks, 27, hopes to bounce back from the first professional defeat of his career in September. Meeks fought Juan Archuleta for the vacant Bellator Bantamweight title in a captivating showdown in which Archuleta won the championship by unanimous decision. “No Love” features promo finishes for Ricky Bandejas and Isaiah Chapman, as well as a first round victory over Yuki Motoya at RIZIN 20 in December 2019.
Pending the completion of the visa, the planned duel between Patrick Freire and Peter Quelli will be moved to the main map, an MMA Fighting official confirmed. The match between Freire and Quelli was originally scheduled to headline Bellator Dublin in October before the event was canceled due to concerns over COVID-19.
Bellator 258 will feature a bout for the lightweight title between Archuleta and Sergio Pettis, and the final match of the first round of the Light Heavyweight Grand Prix between Yoel Romero and Anthony Johnson.
