James Gallagher Pulled From Fight with Patrick Mix at Bellator 258 – MMA Root

“The Strabanimal” will not compete with the upcoming Bellator 258 card.

On Friday afternoon, news broke that James Gallagher had been forced to retire from the planned 135-pound clash against Patrick Mix at Bellator 258. MMA Junkie first reported the news, which was confirmed by several media outlets at the time. The offer is looking for a quick warning replacement to keep the Mix on the card. Meanwhile, the slight collision Patricky Freire-Peter Queally has been promoted to the main card.

Gallagher (11-1, 8-1 Bellator) leads a four-game winning streak after losing to Ricky Bandejas at the Bellator 204 in August 2018. In the last cage appearance, the 24-year-old SBG Ireland representative submitted Callum Ellenor through back-naked drowning in the original context of their Bellator Milan meeting.

Mix (13-1, 2-1 Bellator) failed to win the vacant division championship when he met Juan Archuleta at Bellator 246 last September. That night, “Patchy” also suffered its first professional defeat in 14 games. He previously scored a few submission victories under the Bellator emblem against Ricky Bandejas and Isaiah Chapman before hitting Yuki Motoya with a first-round guillotine drowning in a crossover race at Rizin 20.

The Bellator 258 will land at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, on May 7. The main event will include a 135 pound championship fight between Juan Archuleta and Sergio Pettis. The main card will be shown on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
