Luke Sanders, Anthony Birchak Among Five Fighters to Exit UFC Roster – MMA Root

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has parted ways with five fighters, including Luke Sanders and Anthony Birchak.

Aside from those two, Aalon Cruz, Jordan Griffin and Ray Rodriguez are no longer on the Las Vegas-based promotion roster. MMAjunkie.com confirmed the news after Tom Feely of Sherdog.com and Aaron Bronsteter of TSN pointed out that none of the above athletes were eligible for online fan ratings. The aforementioned departures do not necessarily mean that these fighters were cut off. It could show that their existing contracts have expired and they have not received any new offers.

Saunders is leaving the UFC after missing three of his last four seasons, including a losing decision against Felipe Dias Colares on his most recent UFC trip to ESPN 23. He went 3-5 during his advertising career.

Birchak got just 2-5 in two separate stages with the body. During its second round, “El Toro” was completed in back-to-back battles by Gustavo Lopez and Tony Gravely.

After winning a contract for season 3 of Dana White’s Contender series, Cruz suffered TKO back-to-back defeats in his first two Octagon appearances against Spike Carlyle and Uros Medic.

Griffin won a deal in Season 2 of the Candidate Series but lost four of the five promotional trips. Most recently, he cast a three-phase verdict on Luis Saldana at the UFC on ABC 2.

A veteran of many regional organizations, including the LFA, Combate Americas, Fury FC and the Contender Series, Rodriguez won 0-2 in the UFC, suffering losses to Brian Kelleher and Rani Yahya.
