An undefeated prospect is accelerating in the short term to join the ranks of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Jessica Penne (12-5) was originally ready to face Hannah Golti (5-1) at UFC 260 in March, but Goldie left her match after a positive test for COVID-19. The match was promoted to the UFC at ESPN 22 on April 17, but according to MMA Junkie on Thursday, Goldie will not be competing in this event even for undisclosed reasons. In her place will be the newcomer Lupita Godinez (5-0), who will make her promotional debut in strawweight. Godinez later confirmed her signature on Instagram.
Undefeated as a professional, Godinez took the acy 115 Leg Legacy Fighting Alliance crown in a thriller against Crystal Vanessa Demopoulos at LFA 94 in 2020. The Mexican fighter from Canada reached the LFA with victories in promotions such as the Sparta Combat League and Fighting America. “Loopy” has reached the distance in four of the five races of its career.
Penne is still looking to make her Octagon debut since 2017. A four-year ban on synthetic steroids has kept her on the shelf ever since, though the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency reduced that time to 20 months when it was able to prove substances were not taken to gain a competitive advantage. With a single win dating back to 2014, Penne lost a title match to Joanna Jedrzejczyk before losing to Jessica Andrade and Danielle Taylor in the following years. Unlike her opponent, the former Invicta Fighting Championships champion maintains a career end rate of 75 percent.
The UFC at ESPN 22 lands at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on April 17, with a lightweight title at the fountain as Robert Whitaker finally attacked Calvin Gastill over a period of many years. Other high-charge periods on the card include a light banger between Jeremy Stephens and Drakkar Klose, and a heavyweight one between Alexander Romanov and Juan Espino. In addition, a previous report by the French store L’Equipe that Zarah Fairn dos Santos will lose weight to face Josiane Nunes de Lima was confirmed by the latter on her social media.
