Marvin Vettori Doubles Down On #1 Contender Status After UFC on ABC 2 Win – MMA Root

Marvin Vettori has made it clear that he deserves the next shot at the middleweight title.

In the run-up to his UFC main event on ABC 2 against Kevin Holland, Vettori said that with a win he wanted a title shot. He believed he was already the number one contender after Darren Till retired. Although he didn’t get a stoppage win over the Netherlands, he did get a dominant decision and believes it was enough to get him a title shot.

“Listen, I’m not very happy with what I did there,” Vettori said during his post-fight interview. “I wanted to finish this guy and I couldn’t, but it was a dominating win. I am not the happiest at the moment but I keep winning, I keep progressing and I do it in a dominant way.

“I want Adesanya later. October, I want to fight him, ”Vettori continued. “I think I deserve it. I have the longest winning streak right now. I put on winning performances. Dominant performances. I want this title. “

It should come as no surprise to see Marvin Vettori call Israel Adesanya, as since they fought in 2018 and “The Last Stylebender” won a split decision, Vettori has wanted to turn things back. He has also made it clear that he would end Adesanya if he got the rematch.

Although Vettori believes he is the number one contender, there is a key middleweight fight this Saturday when Robert Whittaker takes on Kelvin Gastelum. If Whittaker has an impressive victory, he will likely be next in line and win a rematch with Adesanya, but the Italian still makes it known that he believes he is the number one contender.

Vettori is on a five-fight winning streak and has earned the opportunity for a rematch, but whether or not he will be next remains unclear.
