McGregor Jabs Poirier, Praises Fury Vs. Wilder Trilogy For ‘Real’ Ending

The Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder trilogy came to a close Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, ending with a bang when Fury knocked out Wilder in the 11th round. The final tally of the three fights: 2-0-1 for Tyson Fury.

All three fights were wildly entertaining, which is a rarity when it comes to heavyweight fights. I don’t know of anyone who has seen the fights who hasn’t enjoyed them, even if Fury forced the referee to pull both fighters out of a stalled clinch multiple times during the fight. Among the people who liked what they saw: former UFC champion and the same occasional boxer, Conor McGregor. Mac took to Twitter to share his admiration for both fighters (and to cast some shadow on his own trilogy partner, Dustin Poirer).

“I love it when it is established with certainty and they both have an honorable presentation,” wrote McGregor. “Not the family in the ring pretending to celebrate after a strange injury, etc., you already know the concert, God bless the real in this world.”

Of course, it was Dustin Poirier who dishonored his trilogy by ‘pretending to celebrate’ … it wasn’t McGregor for yelling at Poirier’s wife and declaring that he would murder Dustin’s entire family. There is nothing dishonorable about that.

Everything else, however, was spot on enough, especially McGregor taking the time to praise Deontay and his fiancée. There will always be a winner and a loser when it comes to combat sports, but in this case, Wilder deserves a lot of credit for his bravery and tenacity on this one. And if you’re not going to get everyone’s credit, hey … at least you keep the cheese.
