Michelle Waterson Releases Statement After UFC on ESPN 24: ‘I’ll Be Back’ – MMA Root

Michelle Waterson made a brave effort in the UFC at the main event of ESPN 24, but eventually ended up falling to Marina Rodriguez by unanimous decision on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Despite being significantly smaller, the former Invicta FC weightlifting queen hung hard against her Brazilian opponent. “Karate Hoti” had its best moment in Round 4, when it landed and spent the best part of the three minutes hitting Rodriguez with fists and elbows from the first place.

Watterson also caused Rodriguez’s jaw to swell after a high kick landed in the final turn, but could not match the Thai striker’s muay’s arms enough in a much-contested match on foot. The Jackson-Wink MMA spokesman has lost three of her last four appearances at the Octagon, but was competitive when she beat Rodriguez, Carla Esparza and Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Following her latest attempt, the 35-year-old New Mexico resident released a statement about the fight.

“Thanks for the dance [Marina
Rodriguez]”a hell of a fight,” Waterson wrote on Instagram. “Thank you [UFC] which gave me the opportunity to play under the lights! Thank you to all my friends, my family and my fans who always have my back !! Every time I enter the octagon, I get a better person. I’ll be back! I love you all.”
