Nicco Montaño Releases Statement After 7-Pound Weight Miss – MMA Root

Nicco Montaño has issued a statement after losing 7 pounds of weight earlier today during UFC Vegas 33 weigh-ins.

Nicco Montaño was set to compete for the first time in two years in a scheduled fight against Wu Yanan at UFC Vegas 33. Unfortunately, that fight had to be called off after Montaño lost the weight by a shocking 7 pounds. Shortly after the lady, Montaño issued an official statement on social media, which you can read in its entirety below:

Montaño’s statement did not specify whether he intends to remain in the bantamweight division or move up to featherweight, where there is a great need for more talent.

Nicco Montaño is the inaugural UFC flyweight champion, but was later stripped of the title due to the same weight loss issue that reared its ugly head again today. Montaño most recently competed in a loss to Julianna Peña in UFC Fight Night: Randamie vs. Ladd in 2019. He has a professional record of 4-3 and is 1-1 in the UFC after winning the 26th season of The last fighter.
