One Championship Postpones December Card Featuring Demetrious Johnson, Two Title Bouts

The One Championship has been postponed to December 5 due to a large number of COVID-19 cases in Singapore, promotion CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced on Wednesday.

The One X title card was scheduled to be the title of a mixed-race match between former UFC flyweight captain Demetrious Johnson and One muay Thai holder Rodtang Jitmuangnon. In addition, two title fights were also scheduled for the event: Bibiano Fernandes vs. John Lineker in bantamweight (145 lbs) and Thanh Le vs. Garry Tonon in featherweight (155 lbs). A new date for the One X card is currently unknown, although reports that the promotion is temporarily targeted in March.

“Due to Singapore’s record high virus outbreak, the One X will now take place early next year instead of December 5. The Singapore government continues to do an excellent job of managing the situation for the country,” Sityodtong wrote. on Facebook. “I am full of gratitude and appreciation for her incredible leadership and excellence. Please note that our regular performances for November and December are expected to continue as normal. It is a difficult time for everyone in Singapore, but I am sure we will all overcome these moments by working together with compassion, resilience, creativity and patience. Majulah Singapura!

“One X is not only a celebration of our tenth anniversary, but it will also be the biggest event in our history. DJ vs Rodtang, Fernandes vs Lineker and Le vs Tonon are just some of the battles in this mega card. I look forward to revealing what else we have in store for fans with ONE: X. Stay tuned for more exciting news! ”

The One Championship holds cards in Singapore with a limited number of fans allowed to attend after initially continuing the program behind closed doors. However, COVID-19 cases have risen in the country to the point that almost 84 percent of intensive care beds in public hospitals are occupied by infected patients.

Sityodtong’s goal is to be able to keep the One “X” “with a full field and a full transmission without much risk”, according to a report by Ariel Helwani. The next One “Nextgen” event is scheduled for Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore and includes a pair of individual weight semifinals. The following two events will take place in camera and will be broadcast via tape delay.
