Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori now headlines UFC Vegas 41 as light heavyweight fight
Less than 24 hours after they were supposed to weigh in at their UFC Vegas 41, Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori agreed to fight at 205 pounds.
The light heavyweight match marks the second time the contractual weight of a fight has changed after Costa announced on Wednesday that he would not be able to reach the average weight limit that was originally agreed and the promotion booked a 195lb light heavyweight fight with Costa. those who agreed to concede. 20 percent of his wallet goes to Vettori.
Sherdog.com was the first to report weight change and Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole spoke with UFC chief executive Hunter Campbell, who confirmed that both fighters have signed new contracts. A lot of people in the know about the negotiations have also confirmed the new fight weight for MMA Fighting.
On Thursday night, Costa posted a video of himself in a portable sauna and said he was going to get better.
But in one video posted to Twitter, Costa also included the headline “stop changing”, prompting a fiery response from Vettori, who had previously spoken out about his opponent’s unprofessionalism by agreeing to a 195-pound fight.
Costa and Vettori have to weigh in on Saturday morning Friday. At the time of this writing, it is unclear whether the revision of the light heavyweight division will allow competitors a one-pound increase; at 195 pounds it was prohibited.
Vettori later commented on the transition through his Instagram account.
Costa returns to the Octagon for the first time since his second-round TKO defeat against Israel Adesanya 13 months ago at UFC 253. The Brazilian later blamed the result for his decision to drink his entire bottle of wine the night before.
Meanwhile, Vettori lost to Adesanya in a rematch at UFC 263 in June.
