Ricardo Ramos withdraws from UFC Vegas 24 after positive COVID-19 test – MMA Root

UFC Vegas 24 has taken another hit from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As revealed by MMA Fighting, Ricardo Ramos, who was scheduled to face Bill Algeo in a featherweight bout at UFC APEX on Saturday night, has tested positive for the viral infection and has been removed from the map. MMAjunkie was the first to break the news.

“Unfortunately, the test came back positive,” Ramos told MMA Fighting on Wednesday. “Thank God I’m fine, and that’s the main thing. I have no symptoms, but there is nothing we can do. “

Sources said the UFC is currently looking for a replacement to take on Algeo (14-5) this weekend in Las Vegas. Former Ring of Combat featherweight champion “Senor Perfecto” took his first UFC win last November, beating Spike Carlisle by decision after a debut defeat to former title challenger Ricardo Lamas.

It was originally expected that Ramos (14-3) would face Zubaira Tukhugov before Algeo took his place. The Brazilian 145-pound athlete holds the 5-2 octagon record with key wins over Ayman Zahabi and Michinori Tanaka, but lost to Lerone Murphy in his last appearance.

UFC Vegas 24 will be streamed live on ESPN and will feature Robert Whittaker vs. Calvin Gastelum in a five-round middleweight headlining match.
