Roxanne Modafferi out of Taila Santos bout on May 8 due to meniscus injury – MMA Root

A knee injury removed Roxanne Modafferi from her match against Taila Santos.

Modafferi (25-18) would fight Santos in a flightweight match at the May 8 UFC event, but MMA Fighting confirmed with Modafferi’s administration that she had to retreat due to a meniscus rupture. The news was first reported by MyMMANews.

Modafferi is expected to have surgery to correct the injury. There is no timeline yet for when he will enter the next contest.

This would be the first fight of the year, after Modafferi’s 2020 campaign, in which a defeat to Lauren Murphy was squeezed amid victories over Andrea Lee and Maycee Barber. In total, the 17-year veteran changed wins and defeats in his previous 10 fights.

Santos will want to take advantage of the two-game streak, which saw him make unanimous decisions against Gillian Robertson and Molly McCann if he remains on the May 8 card. The Brazilian Contender Series signature so far has a professional record of 2-1 in the UFC and 17-1 overall.
