Tim Johnson Explains Why He Was Chosen To Fight Fedor Emelianenko – MMA Root

Tim Johnson told why he will fight Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator Moscow.

Much has been made about the decision to book Emelianenko vs. Johnson as part of The Last Emperor’s farewell tour. Especially considering that the fight will take place in Fedor’s homeland. Many names have been speculated, such as Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, and Josh Barnett.

During an interview with, Johnson responded to the backlash and explained why he was chosen to share the cage with Fedor.

“I honestly didn’t even think I was going to get it at first. I’ve heard the same names as everyone else. … Since the announcement, there have been many people – he was not welcomed with open arms, I think you can say. Well, here it is: Fedor watched my fight at close range for 25 minutes (against Moldavsky). The same list that everyone was talking about in front of Fedor. He had a say in matchmaking.

“This is one of two options: he chose me because he thinks he can knock me out right away. I don’t want to think so. I think he chose me because Fyodor is a warrior. He has a warrior mentality. … I will bring him a fight. He’s not going to make the guy who goes there just have a name to fight Fedor. He knows he’s going to fight. “

Johnson was last seen fighting Valentin Moldavsky, a member of Fedor’s team. Moldovan defeated Johnson by unanimous decision to win the interim Bellator heavyweight title.

Fedor has not participated in competitions since December 2019. He ended the first round with a TKO over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Bellator Moscow will take place at VTB Arena. This will take place on October 9th.
