Only a few days are left until the second meeting between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal for the welterweight title.
On Wednesday, the UFC released an extended promo video for Saturday’s rematch, which features three World Championship bouts at UFC 261.
The video explores the first meeting between Usman and Masvidal at UFC 251 this July, a fight that began less than a week after testing positive for COVID-19 against the originally planned title challenger Gilbert Burns.
Masvidal lost almost 30 pounds during this period, and also traveled around the world to Abu Dhabi, which also had to be done by Usman. Ultimately, Usman retained his title with a unanimous unanimous decision, swapping two referee cards. Even though he raised his hand, it was not Usman’s performance that earned him many fans.
The theme of the commercial is that both fighters had enough time to prepare for each other and we should expect Usman and Masvidal to do their best, with no excuses after that.
UFC 261 will take place at the sold-out VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, in front of about 17,000 people. This will be the first post-UFC 248 promotion event in March 2020, when the UFC will fill the arena due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Aside from the 170-pound title fight between Usman and Masvidal, Zhang Weili will defend his first bantamweight title against Rose Namayunas, while Valentina Shevchenko will stake her flyweight title against Jessica Andrade.
