UFC Vegas 26 results: Neil Magny uses volume striking attack to outpace Geoff Neal and win unanimous decision – MMA Root

Neil Magni excels as an underdog and he proved it once again at UFC Vegas 26.

Faced with a fierce knockout in the face of Jeff Neil on Saturday night, Magny simply stayed focused, avoiding heavy punches, and then he simply continuously attacked with a powerful punch attack to outplay and outrun his opponent in three rounds. The end result was a unanimous decision win, judging the bout 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27, and Magni did his job.

“It’s great,” Magni said later. “By going out there and doing this, prove that the doubters are wrong. I can’t wait to do it again. It got to the point where cardio became my weapon. This has been tested over and over again to help me in fights.

Admitting that he was a bit shy of weapons in his last fight, Neal immediately dropped with bad intentions as he went hunting for Magny, who was struggling to weather the storm. Neal did an excellent job of closing the distance with his longer opponent and throwing punches.

While Neal was definitely more powerful, Magni could slow him down from a clinch and then retaliate with blows from the outside as they parted.

The second round was about the same, with Neal applying pressure and Magny constantly acting with a voluminous shock attack. Neal still managed to hit the target with single shots, but he also had to defend three- and four-shot combos from Magni.

Magni’s physical fitness also began to pay dividends as he jabbed, dropped his knees and used movement to get Neal to chase him. He was always aware of Neal’s strength, but he had just outplayed the former Contender Series winner, and by the end of round three, Magny was still bouncing on his feet and looked like he could go another 15 minutes.

After an unfortunate defeat in his last match against Michael Chiesa, Magny played an impressive game over Neal and is now looking for another rating opponent, mentioning Vicente Luque as a possible problem in his future.
