UFC Vegas 43 medical suspensions: Miesha Tate faces potential six-month suspension for broken nose

Former UFC lightweight champion Misha Tate reportedly suffered a “bilateral nose fracture” and “upper septum fracture” as a result of a decision defeat against Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 43 last Saturday.

This is stated in a suspension message released Tuesday by ABC’s official custodian of documents, Mixedmartialarts.com. UFC Vegas 43 was regulated by the Nevada Athletic Commission and took place at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

Tate needs a medical clearance to avoid six months’ disqualification. A female MMA veterinarian has suffered multiple nose fractures and has previously undergone surgery to correct what she called a “lush” septum. Before her return to active competition earlier this year, UFC President Dana White said he advised against surgery ahead of UFC 200’s encounter with now two-division champion Amanda Nunez, which ended with another bloody nose, and said he would pay for a corrective surgery after Tate’s career ended.

UFC management fears of another such injury now seem valid.
