Former UFC lightweight champion and ONE Championship star Eddie Alvarez burst into tears after being banned against Yuri Lapikus at ONE on TNT.
The cameras captured Alvarez’s reaction as he walked backstage at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where the first Asian event was broadcast live on the US cable network.

Alvarez was declared the loser early in the first round after a series of punches that landed just behind Lapik’s ear and were ruled illegal by referee Justin Brown. At first, he argued that the punches were fair because they touched his opponent’s ear, but in the emotional battle of virtual media after the fight, he said that he would respect Brown’s call and wished all the best to Lapicus, who was taken out of the arena into a stretcher.
In a follow-up interview after the fight, Alvarez continued to wish Lapicus all the best, but stated that the decision should be reversed due to an unfortunate response. ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong questioned the outcome, saying that Alvarez fired four or five illegal strikes. ONE Championship regulates its live streaming.
