Sean O’Malley hopes to take the next step of his career against a fighter that many consider the greatest punk in UFC history.
In one of the more mundane statements you’ll see so far, O’Malley posted a video on his YouTube channel where he got into the driveway with a dirty Nissan Altima, went out with a wrestling athlete, shot and mapped. Why should there be a fight between the next champion and former champion Dominick Cruz.
What’s up Dom? I heard you were looking for a big fight, ”O’Malley said. Who’s a bigger fight than me right now?
“Cory [Sandhagen] About to beat EPO from TJ [Dillashaw], Rob [Font] About to knock out Cody [Garbrandt] for the seventh time this year. Petr [Yan] Disqualified for cheating, Aljo still faints from the knee. Who’s the biggest fight?
Both O’Malley and Cruz bounced back from their last losses with a win in their first match in 2021. While O’Malley overthrew Thomas Almeida at UFC 260, Cruz unanimously decided on O’Malley’s training partner, Casey Kenney, at UFC 259 three weeks ago.
After winning a contract at Dana White’s Contender Series in July 2017, 26-year-old O’Malley made decisions in the first two octagonal looks before winning back-to-back knockout of Jose Quinones and Eddie Wineland in 2020. In August, “Candy” suffered. The first and only loss of his career after a Marlon Vera leg kick led to the TKO win for “Chito” in the first round at UFC 252.
