With Poliana Botelho out, Ji Yeon Kim now meets Priscila Cachoeira at Feb. 26 UFC event
Priscila Cachoeira will get another chance in the UFC octagon.
Several people familiar with the promotion’s plans have confirmed to MMA Fighting that Cachoeira will replace Poliana Botelho to face Ji Yong Kim at a UFC event on February 26. Journalist John Hyun Ko was the first to report the match.
Botelho announced her scratch Thursday on Instagram.
Cachoeira’s latest appearance in the octagon, a first-round loss to Gillian Robertson at UFC 269, has sparked controversy. Before the fight, Cachoeira lost three pounds of weight and was fined 30 percent of her purse. Inside the octagon, Cachoeira gouged out Robertson’s eye in an attempt to avoid a submission attempt.
Despite the attention that was brought to this, Cachoeira told MMA Fighting that the illegal maneuver was unintentional and that she apologized to her opponent.
Prior to this setback, Cachoeira had won her first two UFC victories, knocking out Shana Dobson and Gina Mazani.
Kim will be looking to get back on track as she enters the fight after two fights, losing to Molly McCann and Alexa Grasso by decision. The 32-year-old has three promo victories to her credit, including a second-round TKO over Nadia Kass at UFC 243.
The February 26 UFC event will be headlined by a lightweight bout between Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev.
