Yoel Romero fails pre-fight physical, out of Anthony Johnson fight at Bellator 258 – MMA Root

Bellator 258 – ready to go down on Friday. May 7, 2021 – He just took a big hit on his stacked fight roster because Yoel Romero’s long-awaited fight against Anthony Johnson has been scrapped. According to a Bellator MMA statement, “Soldier of God” failed his pre-fight physical and was deemed unfit for combat.

Of course, Romero vs. Johnson was to be the final opening round of the promotion’s light heavyweight Grand Prix. The winner of that now-streaked fight would have faced division champion Vadim Nemkov in July for a chance to win the belt and reach the final to fight for the $ 1 million prize.

That said, the promotion is currently looking for a replacement for Romero, who is willing to “fight” Johnson at the Grand Prix. Bellator had previously tied Julius Anglickas as a substitute for the tournament following his big win over Gregory Mallard at Bellator 257, so he appears to be the favorite to fill the gap, although nothing has been made official at this time.

Bellator 258 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight with division king Juan Archuleta taking on Sergio Pettis. Additionally, Michael Page will face Derek Anderson while Valerie Loureda returns to fight Hannah Guy.
