Yoel Romero Meets Phil Davis In Bellator Debut On Sept. 18 – MMA Root

After failing to undergo a pre-fight medical check during his first Bellator debut, former UFC title contender Yoel Romero will face Phil Davis on September 18.

At 44 years old, Soldier of God continues to challenge the Father of Time and has a chance to assert himself at the top of the Bellator ladder when he is finally trapped in a cage again. The news of the pair was first revealed by MMA reporter Ariel Helwani on Substack that indeed the light heavyweight fight has been greenlit and will take place in San Jose, California.

“See you soon … Fight”

As soon as the news of Romero’s signing was announced, fans immediately salivated at the thought that the Cuban juggernaut had mixed this with Bellator’s talent. In fact, Romero was supposed to take part in the first round of the Bellator Light Heavyweight Grand Prix against Anthony Johnson. Although the fight was sealed for May, Bellator and officials eventually pulled Romero out of the fight due to medical concerns.

After playing for seven years in the UFC, Romero moved to Bellator last December. The Cuban hasn’t fought his first fight in a new light yet, but it seems like the very thought of him competing with Bellator’s talent kept him in the headlines.

Prior to joining Bellator, Romero had lost several consecutive losses, albeit against the UFC elite. Despite losing out to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and former title challenger Paulo Costa, most believe Romero’s speed and strength are still his most powerful weapons.

Between his signature pink shorts and impeccable composure, Phil Davis is the epitome of consistency. Regardless of the promotion, “Mister. Wonderful ”gives light heavyweight a pace that few people are used to dealing with. And after the defeat to Vadim Nemkov in the title fight for the Grand Prix, the agony of defeat is still fresh in Davis’s memory. However, given a big name such as “Rumble” in front of him, the threat of danger should lead to an exciting confrontation on September 18th.
